    What's the story

In a step that would increase the safety of children in schools, a total of 1.46L CCTV cameras will be installed in every classroom of Delhi government schools.

PWD Minister Satyender Jain announced yesterday that all the 1,028 government schools will be covered under the Rs. 597.5cr project.

Arrangements are also being made to allow parents to access live footage from classes, said Jain.

    Minister said

App being developed for live-streaming of classroom activities

Explaining the project, Jain said an app would be developed that will live-stream the classroom activities.

The parents will have to log-in using an ID and password to be able to view the footage.

For that, "High-speed Internet of appropriate band-width will also be provided," he said.

Further, LED screens will be installed in schools to enable principals keep a track of the classrooms.

Project would need L-G Anil Baijal and Cabinet's nod

Around seven companies have participated in the bidding process, but the winner will be contacted only after the Cabinet and L-G Anil Baijal would approve the project.

Baijal is likely to give his nod as he has been emphasizing on installing 2,000 CCTV cameras in each of Delhi's 70 assembly constituencies, an issue that has created quite a showdown between him and AAP government.

    Past event

Sisodia had announced the same project back in 2015

The same project was announced by Deputy CM and education minister Manish Sisodia, back in 2015.

Following the decision, five government schools in Mori Gate and East Vinod Nagar got CCTV cameras while other five in the area couldn't be covered due to infrastructural hindrances.

Sisodia had said apart from increasing safety of children, the cameras would also ensure punctuality of teachers and staff.
