#CareerBytes: What not to do while preparing for CA exams

    What's the story

Chartered Accountancy (CA) is one of the most sought-after and toughest professional courses. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) provides the three-level program comprising Foundation, Intermediate, and Final courses.

While many youngsters aspire to become a CA, it's quite challenging; aspirants must ensure there are no flaws in their preparation.

Here are some things aspirants must avoid doing while preparing for CA.

    #1

Starting your CA preparation late; studying without a proper plan

One of the foremost things CA aspirants must avoid is starting their preparation late. CA involves vast syllabus and it is important to start preparing as early as possible so that they have enough time to cover all topics.

Also, they should avoid studying without a proper plan. They must plan their study properly and ensure that there is sufficient time for revision too.

    #2

Consulting too many reference books; ignoring ICAI study material

While preparing, aspirants must avoid consulting too many reference books as it may lead to confusion. Instead of buying every book available, they should collect only the relevant ones and stick to those.

Students must also not ignore the ICAI study material and practice manuals as these are important for cracking CA exams. They should also focus on related Class 11-12 textbooks for basics.

    Information

#3: Only studying and not focusing on practice and revision

Some CA aspirants focus only on studying but not on practicing or revising. However, this should be avoided as written practice and revision are as important as studying. They can maintain a separate notebook to write down important points which can help in quick revision.

    #4

Simply mugging up stuff; not getting doubts cleared

CA aspirants must not simply mug up stuff but rather focus on thoroughly understanding the underlying concepts.

Students who blindly mug up things without properly understanding what they are will find it difficult to memorize and recall the concepts, especially in exams.

Also, if they have any doubts or questions, students should immediately get them cleared as it can enhance their understanding of concepts.

    #5

Ignoring previous papers and ICAI mock tests; not analyzing performance

CA aspirants must not ignore previous question papers and mock tests. They should solve these papers, ICAI mock tests, and revision rest papers to familiarize with the exam pattern.

It is also important for aspirants to review and analyze their performance on a regular basis. This will help them identify their preparation flaws or mistakes and improve their performance by designing a proper strategy.
