JEE Advanced 2022 results declared; RK Shishir tops exam

    What's the story

The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay), on Sunday announced the results of the 2022 Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced exam.

Bengaluru's RK Shishir—from the IIT Bombay zone—has topped the Common Rank List (CRL) for JEE Advanced this year. He secured 314 marks out of a possible 360.

Tanishka Kabra (IIT Delhi zone) emerged as the topper among female candidates with 277 marks.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

The JEE is one of the most sought-after engineering entrance exams in India and has two levels—Main and Advanced—for getting into top institutes.

The National Testing Agency (NTA)—which holds various national-level entrances—is the exam conducting authority for the JEE, too.

Recently, the NTA has been blamed for technical glitches and discrepancies in several exams, including NEET, JEE Main, and JEE Advanced as well.

    Details

Who are top 5 JEE Advanced rankers?

Following Shishir, Polu Lakshmi Sai Lohith Reddy and Thomas Biju Cheeramvelil secured the second and third ranks, respectively, as per the CRL.

Vangapalli Sai Siddhartha bagged the fourth rank, while Mayank Motwani got the fifth rank.

A total of 1,60,038 applicants registered for 2022 JEE Advanced, and 40,712 cleared it.

Qualified candidates can check their score card on the official JEE Advanced website: jeeadv.ac.in.

    Comments

Top rank result of hard work, interest: Topper

"I am super excited about the result. I was expecting to be a fifth-rank holder, but it turned out...I had topped the exam," Shishir told The Indian Express.

"My dream to get into IIT developed when I was in Class 8. The rankings in my competitive exams are a result of hard work and my pure interest in computer science (sic)," he added.

Per The Indian Express, Mumbai's Ojas Maheswari made history by becoming the first person with disabilities to achieve a rank as high as AIR 26 (general category).

Maheswari—who topped the PwD category—never requested special accommodations and dislikes being put under the "special category," it reported.

His parents were confident he'll top the PwD category but wanted him to score a good general ranking too.

    Examination

Exam was conducted back in August

To recall, JEE Advanced 2022 was held in two shifts on August 28: morning and afternoon.

Candidates were subsequently granted access to a copy of their responses on September 1 via the official JEE Advanced website: jeeadv.ac.in.

Following that, the provisional answer keys were issued on September 3, and candidates had until 5:00 pm on September 4 to file any objections.

    Information

Now, registrations open for AAT 2022

Now that the results are out, the Joint Seat Allocation (JoSAA) 2022 procedure is likely to begin on Monday.

Meanwhile, online registrations for Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) 2022 is open from 10:00 am on Sunday to 5:00 pm on Monday.

The AAT 2022 exam is scheduled for Wednesday (9 am to 12 pm), and the results will reportedly be made available on September 17.
