    What's the story

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for free Aadhaar detail updates to December 14, 2024.

This move is part of UIDAI's ongoing efforts to encourage citizens, especially those who have not updated their Aadhaar cards in over a decade, to review and amend their information if necessary.

The announcement was made via a social media post by UIDAI.

    Service extension

Free update facility aims to benefit millions

UIDAI's post read, "UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till December 14, 2024; to benefit millions of Aadhaar Number Holders."

The authority emphasized that this complimentary service is exclusively available on the myAadhaar portal.

While it is not mandatory for citizens to update their details, UIDAI strongly recommends keeping Aadhaar information current.

    Identity verification

Aadhaar's role in identifying fake identities

Aadhaar serves as a unique identifier for each resident of India, linked to their individual biometrics.

This system effectively identifies and eliminates fake or ghost identities, thereby preventing potential leakages.

The savings generated from eradicating these fraudulent identities through Aadhaar-based identification, can be utilized by governments to extend benefits to other eligible residents.
