Petrol touches Rs. 91 in Maharashtra, increases in other cities

On Monday, petrol price in Mumbai crossed the crucial Rs. 90 mark, while several other cities in Maharashtra saw prices touch Rs. 91.
Alitre of petrol in Mumbai now costs Rs. 90.08, while a litre of diesel costs Rs. 78.58.
Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices in other metro cities rose by 5-12 paise.

Details about the exorbitant petrol prices in Maharashtra
The new rates came into effect from 6am on Monday.
According to the Federation of Maharashtra Petroleum Dealers Association (FAMPEDA), per litre petrol prices in Nanded, Amravati, Ratnagiri, and Jalagaon touched Rs. 91.61, Rs. 91.31, Rs. 91.14, and Rs. 91.01 respectively.
Meawhile, news agency IANS reported that the price of petrol in some Maharashtra districts was as high as Rs. 91.91.
Other cities
Petrol and diesel prices in other metro cities
India's other metro cities also saw petrol and diesel prices soar.
Per litre petrol prices in Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai touched Rs. 82.72, Rs. 84.54, Rs. 83.37, and Rs. 85.99, respectively.
Meanwhile, per litre diesel prices in Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Chennai soared to Rs. 74.02, Rs. 75.87, Rs. 74.40, and Rs. 78.26, respectively.
Imports
The government might cut down on fuel imports
The consistent rise in fuel prices over several weeks are resultant of increasing global crude oil prices and the weakening Indian rupee.
Interestingly, Reuters has reported that India is looking to cut down on oil imports to try and put a stop on rising fuel prices.
For those unaware, India's is the world's third-largest oil importer, and meets 80% of its requirements via imports.
