Delhiites can now take an electric vehicle on rent

    What's the story

In a boost to the push for electric vehicles (EVs), Mahindra Electric, in collaboration with Zoomcar, is offering 100 'e2oPlus' all-electric cars on rent in Delhi.

Customers can avail the facility through the Zoomcar portal.

The companies have already launched similar projects jointly in Hyderabad, Mysuru and Jaipur.

Considering the Delhi government's initiatives in this aspect, the capital might be a good choice.

    Advantages

India plans to electrify all cars by 2030

The NDA government has been actively pushing EVs, and plans to electrify all vehicles in the country by 2030.

Benefits will be manifold, a NITI Ayog report said: by 2030, India will save Rs. 3.9L cr due to reduced energy demand.

India will generate 175GW of power by 2022 and then will look to storage; that's where EVs will come in.

They will also drive demand for electricity.

    Brands

LeasePlan to finance EVs under the Mahindra-Zoomcar collaboration

Big brands like Mahindra & Mahindra, Toyota, Nissan and Hyundai are planning a shift to hybrid vehicles and EVs. Even Porsche is planning an EV launch in India in early 2020.

Under the Mahindra-Zoomcar collaboration, the vehicles would be financed by LeasePlan.

"We are confident this will help more people adopt EV as a technology," said Mahesh Babu, Mahindra Electric CEO.

    Delhi

    So why Delhi?

"As the national capital, Delhi has consistently shown visionary leadership on various sustainable initiatives such as the Metro, Odd-Even, and CNG infrastructure," said Greg Moran, Zoomcar CEO.

Moreover, it is an important business and urban hub.

The fact that the Delhi administration has taken similar initiatives helps: recently, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation said it will launch 75 EVs.
