    What's the story

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has estimated the upcoming Holi festival will bring in a whopping ₹60,000 crore business.

The amount shows a hefty increase from last year's ₹50,000 crore revenue.

The festival will be celebrated on March 14. As the day nears, shoppers are already thronging shops for colors, clothes, accessories as well as sweets.

    Economic impact

Holi to boost economic activities, says CAIT

CAIT Secretary General and BJP MP from Chandni Chowk, Praveen Khandelwal, said Holi is expected to "stimulate economic activities, benefiting local businesses, small traders, small-scale industries, and the MSME sector in particular."

He added that this year's festival is likely to be beneficial for traders and retailers across the country.

    City forecast

Delhi's Holi business projected at ₹8,000cr

Going by CAIT's data, Delhi is likely to contribute significantly with an estimated business of over ₹8,000 crore.

The high demand for venues like banquet halls, farmhouses, hotels, restaurants, and public parks owing to large-scale celebrations across the country has led to most places being fully booked.

Khandelwal also revealed over 3,000 Holi Milan celebrations are being organized in Delhi alone by various organizations.

    Market trends

Traders and customers shun Chinese goods this year

This year's Holi shopping has witnessed traders and customers boycotting Chinese goods, Khandelwal said.

Instead, the sale of Indian-made herbal colors, gulal, water guns (pichkaris), balloons, sandalwood, pooja materials, as well as apparel has increased as they are being sold extensively.

Other high-demand items include sweets, dry fruits, gift items, flowers, clothing, furnishing fabrics, groceries, FMCG products, and more.

    Fashion trends

CAIT notes increase in sales of traditional attire

Several business sectors are witnessing a sharp rise in Holi-related sales amid increased consumer spending.

Traditional attire like white T-shirts, kurta-pajamas, and salwar suits are seeing rising demands as consumers prepare for the festive occasion.

Additionally, T-shirts with "Happy Holi" written on them are also witnessing steady demand in the market.
