    What's the story

In a nationwide drive to ensure compliance with quality standards, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has launched a series of raids on the warehouses of major e-commerce platforms, Amazon and Flipkart.

In the raids, thousands of substandard products without mandatory ISI marks or fake ISI marks were seized.

The total worth of seized items from Amazon was around ₹70 lakh, while that from Flipkart's Delhi warehouse stood at ₹6 lakh.

    Amazon raid

Over 3,500 items seized from Amazon

On March 19, BIS carried out a major raid at the warehouse of Amazon Sellers Pvt Ltd in Delhi's Mohan Cooperative Industrial Area.

The operation, which lasted over 15 hours, saw the seizure of over 3,500 items.

These included geysers, food mixers, and other electrical appliances that either did not have the mandatory ISI mark or had fake ISI labels.

    Flipkart raid

    Flipkart's Instakart warehouse also raided

In a separate operation, BIS officials raided the warehouse of Flipkart's subsidiary Instakart Services Pvt Limited. The facility is located in Delhi's Trinagar.

During this raid, around 590 pairs of sports footwear packed for dispatch were seized for not complying with ISI standards and not having proper manufacturing date information.

    Nationwide effort

BIS's nationwide operation to enforce quality standards

The raids on Amazon and Flipkart are part of a larger nationwide drive by the BIS. The idea is to ensure compliance with quality standards and safeguard consumer interests.

In the last month, similar operations have been carried out in different parts of India, including Gurugram, Faridabad, Lucknow, and Sriperumbudur.

These efforts have led to the seizure of a variety of substandard products failing mandatory certification requirements by Indian regulators.
