    Bengaluru Airport records 25 million passenger traffic in 2017

    What's the story

    It was recently reported that Bengaluru's Kempegowda International airport recorded a passenger traffic of 25 million in 2017 which represents a growth of 13% over the previous year.

    The increase in the traffic has allowed the airport to retain its position as the busiest airport in South India.

    The airport has also become the third busiest airport in India after Delhi and Mumbai airport.

    Air traffic movements in Jan-Dec 2017 grew by 4.3%: Report

    As per a report, the air traffic movements in Jan-Dec 2017 period grew by 4.3%. The airport witnessed the highest-ever passenger movement on Dec 23 with 87,815 travelers in a single day.

    "The same day also recorded 603 air traffic movements (ATMs) - the highest ever for the airport. In 2017, the airport also handled 339,461 metric tonnes of cargo," added the report.

    Airport witnessed growth in domestic and international passengers

    According to a statement released by Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the number of domestic and international passengers in 2017 grew by, by 14.5% and 4.7% respectively.

    "The airport witnessed 505 air traffic movements (ATMs) in 2017, with a total of 184,348 ATMs during 2017 against 176,797 ATMs registered in 2016," it added.

    The Bengaluru airport has also added four new routes in 2017.
