    What's the story

Piaggio-owned Vespa is all set to launch its fully-electric scooter, the Elettrica, in India in June, according to a report.

The premium electric scooter, which made its India debut at the 2020 Auto Expo, will be brought to our shores via the CBU (completely-built-unit) route.

The e-scooter promises a range of 100km and a top speed of 75kmph.

    Here's our roundup.

    Design and features

A look at the Vespa Elettrica

Similar to the other Vespa models, the Elettrica comes with a retro-styled design featuring a neat front fascia, a flat seat, and rounded headlamp as well as mirrors.

However, the blue-colored accents around the wheels and body panels differentiate it from the fuel-powered models.

Furthermore, it also gets an all-LED lighting setup and a fully-digital instrument console that supports smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth.

    Internals

    The e-scooter promises a range of 100km

The Vespa Elettrica packs an electric motor that is capable of producing 5.4PS of maximum power and 200Nm of peak torque (at the wheels). The motor is fueled by a 4.2kWh lithium-ion battery that can be charged in 4 hours.

Apart from that, the e-scooter promises a range of 100km on a single charge and has a top speed of 75kmph.

    Safety

    Vespa Elettrica: On the road

On the safety front, the Vespa Elettrica comes equipped with a 200mm disc brake up front and 140mm drum brake at the rear. Apart from that, it also gets a regenerative braking system wherein the battery of the scooter gets charged whenever brakes are applied.

To manage suspension duties, the e-scooter houses trailing-link forks on the front and a mono-shock absorber on the rear.

    How much?

    Finally, what about pricing?

The official details about the pricing and availability of the Vespa Elettrica will be revealed at its launch event itself which is set to happen in June.

However, reports suggest that the e-scooter would be priced above Rs. 1 lakh and will compete against the likes of Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, and Ather 450X.
