    What's the story

Tesla's impending entry into the Indian market has sparked fierce competition among states, each vying to host the electric vehicle giant's manufacturing facility.

The plant is expected to serve not only the domestic market but also act as an export hub.

Tesla has not yet announced where it will build its factory, but states are vying for the economic benefits of a Tesla Gigafactory, which is a large manufacturing facility that creates many jobs.

In a conversation with India Today, Union Minister Piyush Goyal was asked about the potential location for Tesla's production facility in India.

The minister, downplaying the ongoing rivalry between states to woo Tesla, responded, "Hum Bharat ke rehne wale hai Bharat ki baat karte hai (We are Indians, we talk about India)."

He also underscored Tesla CEO Elon Musk's recognition of India's competitive manufacturing costs and abundant talent pool.

Tesla officials are scouting potential locations for the India plant in various states.

As per reports, Gujarat is currently the frontrunner, followed closely by Maharashtra.

Tamil Nadu, meanwhile, is leveraging its existing automotive ecosystem as a trump card.

Often dubbed the "Detroit of India," the region near Chennai boasts manufacturing facilities for giants like Hyundai, Nissan, Renault, and BMW.
