    What's the story

South Korean automaker Hyundai is reportedly preparing to launch a hydrogen supercar, internally known as the "N74," in 2026, as per The Korea Economic Daily.

The N74 is described as a modern interpretation of the DeLorean, incorporating design elements from the 1974 Pony Coupe, Hyundai's inaugural car.

This flagship sports car will feature a rear-wheel-drive layout and gullwing doors.

    Performance

    N74 supercar to deliver high-performance

The production model of the N74 is expected to deliver at least 765hp, a notable increase from the concept's 671hp.

The Korea Economic Daily reports that the N74 will be capable of reaching 100km/h in just three seconds.

Hyundai reportedly aims for the N74 to challenge the current Nürburgring record for production vehicles, held by Mercedes-AMG One.

    Production plans

Limited production and testing timeline for N74

Hyundai plans to limit the production of the N74 to only 200 units, which will be manufactured from 2026 until 2028.

Prototype testing for this supercar is scheduled to commence as early as August this year.

The estimated cost of the N74 is around 500 million won, approximately ₹3 crore at current exchange rates.

    Project goals

Hyundai's aim: Showcasing hydrogen as exciting technology

While profitability isn't necessarily the primary goal for this project, Hyundai aims to demonstrate that hydrogen can be an exciting technology.

This initiative follows its success with the Ioniq 5 N, proving that battery-powered EVs can also provide thrilling performance.

The N74 supercar is expected to complete two laps of the Nordschleife at full speed before running out of power.
